Exploring Edinburgh: A Five-Day Adventure in Scotland's Capital

Edinburgh; a city that stole my heart and I know will steal yours!

As Scotland's capital nestled in the southeast, Edinburgh captivates with its mesmerizing architecture, deep-rooted history, and lively cultural offerings. The iconic Edinburgh Castle, perched atop an ancient volcano, grants panoramic vistas of the cityscape. Stroll along the UNESCO-listed Royal Mile and explore the regal Palace of Holyroodhouse, where Scottish royalty resides.

Beyond its historical allure, Edinburgh hosts renowned festivals like the Edinburgh International Festival and the famed Edinburgh Fringe, drawing global audiences yearly.

My love affair with Edinburgh began in 2015 during a short trip with friends. Two days were merely a teaser, prompting a return trip that I scheduled for 2020 which unfortunately had to wait due to COVID. The delayed trip, however, allowed for an extended two-week exploration of Scotland, from the rugged Highlands to the enchanting Isle of Skye, culminating in a cherished week in Edinburgh, which you can read about here!

I invite you to join me to uncover the magic of Edinburgh!

Before we start our adventure, let's go over a few key tips:

  • Buy Tickets Ahead: Purchase tickets in advance for popular attractions to ensure you’re able to do it and also buying ahead of time can save you money. If you're confident about your schedule, grab those tickets early!

  • Wear Comfortable Shoes: Edinburgh is compact but requires a lot of walking. Make sure to pack comfortable shoes to tackle those cobblestone streets!

  • Vegan Options: I’ve included vegan-friendly spots within the areas you’ll be in, but always double-check their status before heading out. Sadly, lots of places have been closing.

  • Weather: Be prepared for any kind of weather in Edinburgh! We had mostly sunny days during our trip in May with some rain here and there. Being prepared with weatherproof items helped it not affect our site seeing for when it did start raining.

Now, let's dive into the perfect five-day itinerary for Edinburgh!
